Aggregates Calculator

How much gravel do I need? This is one of the questions we get asked on a regular basis.  Our easy to use aggregates calculator will give the answer for all of our products, just follow these easy instructions.

  • Enter the length and width in metres.
  • Add depth in Millimetres.
  • If you like to do it the old way in feet and inches click here to covert your measurements.
  • Read the text on each calculator for any tips or instructions for this product.
  • The calculator for your chosen product will give you the amount required in Poly Bags or Bulk Bags. It does not round up or down and leaves the purchasing choice to yourself. Please note-we only supply full bags and cannot send half bags due to transport costs.

If you are having difficulty please feel free to contact us or call us on 0800 0699101. We would be happy to help or advise.

If you are looking to conform to British Standards (BS1177 EN) for the installation of Play Bark you need to carefully check the fall height we display on the bottom of the listing. All types of Play Bark have the same critical fall height, check here to view the details. The simple way to understand it is to measure the height of the tallest piece of play equipment in your play area which a child could fall from and round it up to next fall height. For instance, if you had a slide at 3.2m high you would round it up to the next fall height at 4.4m which would require a depth of 200mm. If you are school, nursery, college or even a shopping centre you would need to meet this criteria. To view BS1177 EN in more detail click here.

Many of our customers do however lay this product at 50mm. This would be fine to protect from minor slips and trips and it is the customers responsibility to install this product safely and at the correct depth.

The general rules when laying gravel are

10mm aggregates are laid at a depth of 30-40mm, except on driveways which should be 50mm.

20mm aggregates are laid at a depth of 40-50mm, except on driveways which should be 60mm.

Whilst 10mm gravel can be used on driveways, in our experience a 20mm aggregate is more suitable, bonds better, requires less maintenance and is less prone to rutting.
